Google Assistant allows you to control your Smartwave motorized shades with simple voice commands. Whether you want to open, close, or adjust your shades to a specific position, Google Assistant provides hands-free control to make your home smarter and more convenient.
1. What You Need to Control Your Shades with Google Assistant
Before you can control your Smartwave shades with Google Assistant, make sure you have:
A Smartwave motorized shade installed and added to your Google Home app.
The Google Home app installed on your smartphone.
A Google Assistant-enabled device, such as a Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Mini, or your smartphone with Google Assistant.
Once you've completed these steps, you're ready to start controlling your shades with voice commands.
2. Basic Voice Commands for Controlling Your Shades
Google Assistant supports basic voice commands that let you open, close, or adjust your Smartwave shades. Here are the most commonly used commands:
Basic Commands
“Hey Google, open <shade name>.”
“Hey Google, close <shade name>.”
These commands will move your shade to its fully open or fully closed position.
3. Adjusting Your Shades to a Specific Position
Google Assistant also allows you to adjust your shades to a specific percentage or position, giving you more control over the amount of light and privacy.
Percentage Commands
“Hey Google, set <shade name> to 50%.”
This will adjust your shade to 50% open.“Hey Google, open <shade name> to 20%.”
This will open your shade to 20% of its full position.“Hey Google, close <shade name> to 70%.”
This will close your shade to 70% of its full position.
4. Setting Up Automations to Control Your Shades
Automations are a series of actions for your home devices that help you and your household automate tasks throughout the day. Only people in the home with Admin access or Members with Settings permission can create and manage Automations. Learn more about access levels and permissions in the Google Home app.
For example, you can create:
A Automation that starts when you say, “Hey Google, good morning.” Google Assistant then opens your compatible smart shades, adjusts them to a specific position, and reads out the weather for the day.
A Automation that announces “It’s almost bedtime” on your connected speakers at 8:00 PM every day, then closes the shades for added privacy.
A Automation that opens the porch shades and reads the weather on your speaker every day at sunset.
A Automation that starts when anyone turns on the living room TV. Google Assistant then adjusts the shades to reduce glare for optimal viewing.

Important: If you don't have a starter, then your automation will not start automatically, but you can still manually start your automation (make sure conditions are empty as well).
- Open the Google Home app
.
- Tap Create
Automation
.
-
To name your automation, tap Add name.
Optional: To include a description for your automation, tap Add description.
- Add the starters, conditions, and actions you want.

Tip: The Automation tab lists up to the next 5 scheduled automations.
The new automations setup has the same supported starters, conditions, and actions as Help Me Create. Some traits, like a starter based on familiar faces, require a Google Home Premium subscription.
