Though both use percentages, openness factor and light blocking describe completely different characteristics of window fabric:
| Term | What It Means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Openness Factor | The percentage of open space in the weave (how see-through the fabric is). | 5% openness = 5% open space, 95% solid fabric. |
| Light Blocking | The percentage of total light blocked by the fabric. | 95% light blocking = blocks most light, allows 5% through. |
Key Difference:
-
Openness % measures how transparent the fabric is.
-
Light blocking % measures how dark the room will be.
✅ A fabric with 5% openness and 95% light blocking may sound similar numerically—but they describe two different things. A 5% openness fabric may still allow filtered daylight and a view, while a 95% light blocking fabric could be much more opaque, regardless of openness.
