If your cellular shade is not moving smoothly or the bottom rail (hem bar) looks crooked, it is often caused by one of the following issues:
Common Causes
Shade Operated Before Installation Was Complete
Using the shade before it's fully installed or before removing the waist band may prevent the fabric from hanging naturally. This can lead to misaligned or tangled cords, affecting shade performance and causing the hem bar to appear uneven.Obstruction During Operation
If there are items on the windowsill or in the path of the shade as it lowers, the fabric may bunch up or stop midway. This can interfere with cord alignment and result in jerky or uneven movement.Manual Lifting or Pushing
Lifting or pushing the bottom rail by hand—rather than using the remote or smart app—can disrupt the internal cord mechanism, leading to improper or uneven operation.
To restore the shades to their proper condition, here are two effective solutions:
Method 1: Simple Manual Adjustment
- Lower the Shades
Use the remote control to lower the cellular shades to their lowest position, fully extending them. - Adjust the Bottom Edge
Locate the side of the bottom edge that is higher, and gently pull it down until both sides are level. - Raise the Shades
Use the remote control to fully raise the shades to their highest position, retracting them completely. - Repeat the Process
Repeat the steps above about three times. This method is suitable for minor tilting issues and typically resolves the problem.
Method 2: Advanced Adjustment (If Method 1 Does Not Work)
- Remove the Shades
Fully raise the shades, then carefully remove them from the mounting brackets. - Inspect the Cord Alignment
Check the spools inside the shades to ensure the cords are properly aligned. If the cords are misaligned or too tightly wrapped, adjustments will be necessary. - Reset the Bottom Limit
- Use the remote control to move the shades to the current bottom limit position.
- Press and hold the "UP" and "DOWN" buttons on the remote control simultaneously for 2 seconds. The shades will jog up and down once.
- Slowly lower the shades using the remote control until there is only one loop of cord remaining on the spool.
- Ensure the Cord is Aligned
Fully raise the shades using the remote control, ensuring the cords are evenly aligned on the spools. During this process, keep the shades level to avoid further misalignment and ensure the bottom edge does not touch the floor. - Reinstall the Shades and Restore the Bottom Limit
- Reinstall the shades onto the mounting brackets.
- Use the remote control to move the shades to the original bottom limit position.
- Press and hold the "STOP" button on the remote control for 2 seconds. The shades will jog up and down once, completing the bottom limit setting.
Method 3: Severe Cord Tangling — Cord Fully Off the Pulley
If the internal cords have completely come off the pulley and are severely tangled, this indicates a more advanced issue that cannot be fixed by simple repositioning. In this case, see the video tutorial for detailed repair instructions.
